Sheepdog Tip of the Day, Before Combat tip 280

A new self-talk program must: 1. Be clear and to the point. It must be specific. For example, "It's like me to train four times a week." 2. Use repetition. This type of motivational self-talk is like a personal contract. You need to see it and say it often; for example, write it down and post it all over the house. 3. Be strong. The self-talk phrase that is vivid and memorable works the best. For example, Muhammad Ali's selftalk (which he reinforced by making it public) was, "I am the greatest!" 4. Be tied to a goal. The changed self-talk must have "pay value" for you. You must want the change badly enough that you will stick to it. 5. Have duration. It takes a minimum of 21 days to work.
