You fired the bullet. You stopped the threat. Now, do everything humanly possible to keep the criminal alive until the ambulance gets there. Maybe he'll live. Maybe he'll die. Either way, the civilians around you will get the point. You're not in the business of killing people. You're in the business of stopping deadly threats and contributing to their safety, with the unfortunate side effect of threats dying sometimes.
