Sheepdog Tip of the Day, During Combat tip 41

[Prev] [Next]

Know that under extreme stress you might not be able to see your pistol sights. There are several case studies of police officers reporting after their gunfights that because they could not see their sights, they did not fire. Know ahead of time that this phenomenon might happen and don't let it paralyze you. If you find yourself in a desperate, life-and-death, pointblank confrontation, and you have a clear shot, trust your instincts, point and fire. But, if you are having difficulty focusing on your sights and you have just a few seconds, breathe. Most of us were taught to breathe during our first day on the firing range, using the acronym BRASS, Breathe, Relax, Aim, Sight, and Squeeze. Breathe in, hold it, let it out, hold it and squeeze. This is perfect opportunity to use the tactical breathing method.
