In law enforcement, there is a real and present danger for any officer if he loses situational awareness by getting mesmerized on a single suspect. The problem, of course, is that there may be other perpetrators nearby who are also dangerous. To counter this, law enforcement training requires the officer to scan all around after each engagement. This breaks them out of their tunnel vision and "unaware" state and brings them to a situationally aware state.
