If you know your role, the orientation phase is where the Boyd loop guides how you will respond to the observations you make. If you have self-confidence and self-control, the orientation phase will limit the number of decisions you have to make. How quickly you are able to orient yourself to the task at hand speeds the process of deciding and then acting.
