Sheepdog Tip of the Day, Before Combat tip 299
The mental program starts a few seconds prior to firing the shot. It's short: four or five steps, each described by only two or three key words. Each step causes you to carry out an important procedure or set of procedures that you need to do consistently for each shot. An example of a mental program (and a very good starting place) is as follows: Breathe and relax. Correct target. Level. Sight picture, sight picture . You must not include anything to do with the actual manipulation of the trigger, because trigger control must be a subconscious act that automatically happens during the last step of the mental program (sight picture, sight picture .). You remain focused on the perfect sight picture while you subconsciously squeeze the trigger until the rifle fires.
