Sheepdog Tip of the Day, Before Combat tip 241
[When getting new holsters] I would have guys do four to eight hours of fundamentals, drawing, reholstering, scanning, reloads from the draw, onehanded draws, weak-hand-injured draws--everything possible to get them working the holster and becoming intimate with it. I usually tell them the day before to bring some painkiller medicine because they're going to have sore shoulders from the amount of work they're going to do (they usually break a good sweat from the drills). Then when I see a basic level of proficiency, I start to seriously stress them out by trying to activate their sympathetic nervous system (SNS). I do this usually by playing "officer down" audio or videotapes and role-playing WHILE doing the drawing motions.
