We can't avoid going in harm's way, and there is always a chance that we will get highly excited when people are fighting and dying (this may be especially true when you are wounded), which may cause the puppy to come for a visit. But we can prevent the "persistent avoidance" of things that bring the puppy for a visit! And that means plenty of range time, simulation time, and paint bullet force-on-force scenarios, every chance you get, combined with breathing (the "leash") until the puppy gets under control.
