Sheepdog Tip of the Day, After Combat tip 20

[Prev] [Next]

Bruce Siddle gives a classic example of vasoconstriction. As three police officers checked each other for injury after a shooting, one of them found a small pucker in the front of his upper sleeve and another pucker on the other side. "The bullet must have missed me," he said, visibly relieved. But as soon as he uttered those words, the wound in his arm opened and the hole gushed blood. When he thought he was okay he relaxed, which caused the vasoconstriction to stop and the vasodilatation to begin.
